Demolition & Floors... What can they have in common?
What happens when your home is completely out of date and hard to live in, but your hardwood floors have hundreds of years of life left? You demolish the house, but save the floors! Meet the J family in Lake Highlands, Dallas. Even though this sweet family of 4 outgrew their 1950s ranch style bungalow and wanted a modern-appointed home, they asked Trinity Valley Demolition to salvage their original rift-sawn Red Oak floors so their builder could re-install them. Aside from the practical differences - reclaimed Red Oak is subtle in color, the boards are longer and it has a much lower moisture content compared with its modern counterpart, their hearts loved the idea of having the same floors their babies crawled over and learned to walk on.
Installing reclaimed, solid hardwood floors is as the exact same process as installing and finishing new flooring. In keeping with an up-to-date Transitional look, the J family decided to sand and apply a water-based polyurethane, there is no stain on these floors.
It’s practical, it’s green, and it allows for a touch of sentimentality.
