The Roaring Boom Oak

from $25.00

$2.75 and +/ square foot

The Roaring Boom Oak is reclaimed, antique 2-1/4" Red and White Oak flooring, that has been salvaged, de-nailed, cleaned and prepped for its next life. Our supply generally comes from installations during either the Roaring 20s or the Baby Boom. It offers the look of traditional Oak flooring, but with even more character, and is sustainably sourced. While Oak is a hardwood species with a beautiful grain structure as is, virgin Oak is even harder and denser, with an even tighter grain pattern. Additionally, reclaimed boards come in lengths up to 12' long, whereas 7.5' is the maximum for new, off-the-shelf unfinished Oak hardwood flooring.

HISTORY of THE ROARING BOOM OAK FLOORING

With the advances of the Industrial Revolution, milled wood flooring became a possibility that literally ended the need for dirt floors. It took years to perfect and was a luxury item, but hardwood flooring in American really came into play in the late 1800s. After the end of WW1, America experienced an economic boom, the Roaring 20s, and with it came disposable income and more advancements with installation and millworks equipment. By the 1920s, 2-1/4" plank Oak flooring was the standard floor in all new builds and the epitome of class and distinction. Soon enough, building and construction took a backseat to the Great Depression, but with the ending of WW2 and the advent of the Baby boom, Oak flooring exploded again! For about 10 years, it was the go-to choice for flooring in all homes... I'm sure almost every baby boomers crawled and learned to walk on 2-1/4" Oak! With another advancement in technology, the concrete slab foundation, Oak flooring retired from the spotlight and tile, carpet and linoleum moved into the forefront.

Customers for this product range from historic renovations, to discerning homeowners installing completely new floors with character and interest, to homeowners patching areas in their old home, to commercial & retail spaces.
